Aetherio Inn Interior

Our Story

It started with a simple idea - what if a hotel could be more than just a place to crash?

How We Got Here

Founders Story

Back in 2019, Maya and Dev were sitting in yet another sterile hotel room after a grueling conference. They'd spent the day talking about innovation but felt completely drained. That's when it hit them - hotels had become so... transactional. Where was the inspiration? The restoration?

So they took a risk. Bought this old building on Pacific Boulevard that nobody wanted and spent two years turning it into something different. A place where your body could rest, your mind could wander, and maybe - just maybe - you'd leave feeling more like yourself than when you arrived.

The Journey So Far

2019 - The Lightbulb Moment

Maya and Dev had their epiphany. Started sketching plans on napkins (seriously, we still have those napkins framed in the office).

2020 - Crazy Times

Bought the building right before the world shut down. Everyone thought we were nuts. Maybe we were, but we used that time to really think through what we wanted to create.

2021 - Building Dreams

Construction kicked off. We partnered with local artists, sustainable builders, and wellness practitioners to shape every detail. The meditation garden took three tries to get right.

2022 - Opening Our Doors

February 14th (yeah, we're romantics). First guests walked in. First artist residency started. First time we realized this might actually work.

2023 - Growing Roots

Added the rooftop bar (best sunset views in Vancouver, not biased at all). Hosted our first sustainability summit. Started the farm partnership program.

2024-2025 - Still Evolving

Launched new creative workshops. Expanded the spa. And honestly? We're still figuring things out as we go. That's kind of the point.

The People Behind the Magic

We're not gonna call ourselves a family (that's kinda cliche), but we do genuinely like hanging out together. Here's the crew that keeps this place running.

We're Trying to Do Better

Look, we're not perfect. But we're genuinely trying to run this place in a way that doesn't trash the planet. Not because it's trendy (though it kinda is), but because it actually matters to us.

Some of this stuff is obvious - solar panels, composting, that kind of thing. But we're also trying to think bigger. How do we support local communities? How do we reduce waste without making it annoying for guests? It's a work in progress, and we're learning as we go.

The map below shows some of what we're up to. Click around if you're curious about the details.

Sustainable practices
Solar Energy

Rooftop solar panels cover about 60% of our energy needs. The other 40% comes from BC Hydro's renewable sources. Yeah, we track this stuff.

60% self-sufficient
Water Conservation

Rainwater collection system for the gardens. Low-flow fixtures everywhere. We've cut water usage by 40% compared to standard hotels our size.

40% reduction achieved
Zero Waste Goal

Composting program, partnership with local recycling initiatives, and we're phasing out single-use plastics. Currently diverting 78% from landfills.

Local Sourcing

Work with 12 farms within 100km. Restaurant menu changes based on what's actually in season. Supporting local economy while cutting transport emissions.

85% locally sourced ingredients
Native Gardens

Meditation garden uses native BC plants that don't need much water or maintenance. It's become a little urban habitat - we've spotted 23 bird species so far.

100% native species
Community Programs

Free yoga sessions for neighborhood residents. Scholarship program for local artists. Living wage for all staff. Being a good neighbor matters.
